79 roads across Kerala to be renovated spending 327cr
T'puram: The public works department has given administrative approval for works amounting to Rs 356.97 crore for the renovation and reconstruction of 79 roads in various districts, included in the Sabarimala package. Of the total, Rs 326.97 crore will be spent on 67 roads using the project allocation and Rs 30 crore on 12 roads under the non-project category. This will pave the way for the renovation of approximately 386km of roads.
Funds have been allocated for 15 roads in Thiruvananthapuram district, divided into two categories. About 70km of roads in the district will be renovated at a cost of Rs 76 crore. In Kollam district, Rs 58.7 crore has been allocated for 13 roads covering a total length of about 75km and in Alappuzha district, Rs 35.85 crore has been allocated for eight roads covering a total length of 35km. In Kottayam district, 24km across eight roads will be renovated with an administrative approval of Rs 30.35 crore. In Ernakulam district, Rs 33.8 crore has been allocated for nine roads, covering the renovation of 44km.
In the project category, four roads in Idukki district will be renovated, with administrative approval for Rs 35.5 crore for a total of 40.77km. In Thrissur district, Rs 30.12 crore has been allocated for the renovation of eight roads covering a total of 31km and in Palakkad district, Rs 26.15 crore has been allocated for 30.5km across seven roads.
Most of the road renovations will be completed as per BMBC standards and BC overlay. The funds for the renovation of these roads have been allocated as part of efforts to improve the quality of roads in Kerala, said public works minister PA Mohamed Riyas. He said tender procedures would be completed as quickly as possible to expedite the renovation works.
