Renovation work starts on Ambalamukku-Paruthippara road in Thiruvananthapuram
Thiruvananthapuram: The long-awaited renovation of the Ambalamukku–Paruthippara road has finally commenced. The project covers the 2.2km stretch from Ambalamukku to Paruthippara via Muttada and the 1.55km stretch from Ambalamukku to Poomalliyoorkonam via NCC Road.
Both stretches will be upgraded to bituminous macadam and bituminous concrete (BMBC) standards. The renovation will also include the rebuilding of drainage canals at key locations to prevent waterlogging during rains. The entire work is being carried out with an allocation of Rs 3.8 crore from the state govt's plan fund.
Vattiyoorkavu MLA VK Prasanth said the road renovation and drainage works are expected to be completed by mid-May. He added that with the ongoing Nettayam– Moonnamoodu–Manalayam road project nearing completion, over 90% of the roads under the public works department in the Vattiyoorkavu constituency were upgraded to BMBC standards. The renovation is expected to bring major relief to commuters and residents in the area, who have long faced difficulties due to pothole-ridden roads and frequent flooding.
The Ambalamukku-Paruthippara road renovation had faced inordinate delay and was reviewed by both the human rights commission and the Lokayuktha. Being one of the most important routes in the city, the condition of the road was an inconvenience for commuters, especially for people from Peroorkada who travel via this stretch to reach the Medical College. The route is also used by students of Mar Ivanios and MG College.
