T'puram: The general education department's awareness campaign against drugs for the 2025–26 academic year will kick off with a grand event, a mega Zumba display, at Chandrasekharan Nair Stadium in
Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday. Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the event at 5pm. Minister for general education V Sivankutty, will preside over the function. Around 1,500 students from various schools across the district are expected to participate in the mega Zumba display. Sivankutty visited the stadium on Monday to review the final rehearsal for the event.
Earlier, under the leadership of CM, a programme titled ‘With Childhood and Youth, Along with the Govt' was held at the Sankaranarayanan Thampi Hall in the legislative assembly complex. During the programme, Vijayan emphasized the need for comprehensive health and physical education initiatives in schools to curb tendencies toward violence and drug abuse among students and to reduce mental stress.
He directed activities like Zumba, aerobics and yoga, which allow students and teachers to participate together, should be promoted in schools. Following this directive, the general education department initiated steps to integrate extensive arts and sports programmes into the school curriculum for the upcoming academic year.
