Encroachments cleared from Shukravari Bazaar
Vadodara: The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) on Friday carried out a drive to remove encroachments from the Shukravari Bazaar, known for second-hand articles and collectibles. The move followed repeated complaints about vendors spilling beyond permitted areas and obstructing roads and building entrances.
While the market is officially allowed to operate from Fatehpura to Bhutdi Jhampa, it frequently extends into surrounding areas, causing inconvenience to local residents and shop owners. In the past, VMC has conducted similar removal operations, but vendors often return to the encroached spaces.
Despite Friday being a civic holiday, VMC teams conducted the operation and seized two truckloads of goods from unauthorized sections of the market. Officials said the drive was aimed at vendors operating outside designated areas and causing public nuisance.
Sources revealed that although the market originally dealt in used goods, antiques, and vintage items, many vendors have now started selling new products. VMC authorities stated that despite multiple warnings, unauthorized vendors continue to reappear in restricted zones.
