VIJAYAWADA: Sri Sathya Sai district police are investigating the actions of the helicopter crew, including pilot Anil Kumar and co-pilot Shreyas Jain, after a security breach disrupted the return of YSRCP chief and former CM Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on April 8. The crew has appeared before the police for questioning.
Jagan had travelled by helicopter to Kuntimaddi in Ramagiri mandal to console the family of YSRCP worker Lingamayyah, who had recently passed away in Papireddypalli. However, before he could disembark at the helipad, a group of YSRCP supporters breached the barricades and rushed onto the helipad area.
Amid the chaos, some people reportedly came into contact with the chopper, damaging the front glass panel. Citing safety concerns, the pilot and crew reportedly informed party leaders that they could not safely fly Jagan back. Surprisingly, shortly after the incident, the same damaged helicopter was flown to Bengaluru by the pilot and co-pilots.
This decision has raised questions over flight safety protocols, leading to a probe being initiated. Police are investigating the circumstances under which the helicopter was flown after the incident and why Jagan's return plan was abruptly altered. The actions of the flight crew and the breach of the helipad perimeter are both under scrutiny.
