VIJAYAWADA: A YSRCP leader, Kalathuru Sunil Reddy, who has a rowdy sheet against him, allegedly misbehaved with and abused Sullurupeta sub-inspector P Ravi Babu using caste slur.
Sunil Reddy was called to the police station on Sunday for regular counselling for rowdy sheeters.
However, the accused alleged he was illegally detained at the station and brutally thrashed by SI.
He also claimed 2.80 lakh in cash was stolen from him during the scuffle at the station. SI Ravi Babu told TOI that on Sunday, all the rowdy sheeters were called to the station for counselling by the SI. Sunil Reddy a co-option member in Sullurupeta, was called and asked about the crime he committed. He denied any wrongdoing, and said a fake case was booked against him.
"Sunil Reddy is the prime accused in the murder case of a constable in 2014. The case is pending in high court. He is also accused of misbehaving with policemen in the past. All resulted in a rowdy sheet being opened against him", Ravi Babu added. When Ravi Babu showed evidence of Sunil Reddy being an accused in the constable murder case, Sunil Reddy caught the SI by his collar and abused him mentioning his caste. Also, a scuffle took place between the duo. A case has been registered under 353 IPC (assaulting or using criminal force to deter a public servant from discharging his duty) and under sections of the SC&ST Prevention of Atrocities Act.
