Manipur assembly polls results row: Mobile internet in Jiribam hit

In view of the string of violent incidents in remote Jiribam after the declaration of results of assembly polls, the state government suspended mobile internet services in the district for five days with effect from Saturday evening.

IMPHAL: In view of the string of violent incidents in remote Jiribam after the declaration of results of assembly polls, the state government suspended mobile internet services in the district for five days with effect from Saturday evening.
Thrashing of supporters of rival workers, damaging of houses and vehicles and other violence has been reported from the district bordering Assam since the poll results were declared on Thursday.

Jiribam, which has only one assembly seat, saw a multi-cornered contest in the recently held state polls. JD (U) nominee and former MLA Ahab Uddin won from Jiribam. An order dated March 12, issued by the state home department, said that after the declaration of results of the assembly polls, a series of violent incidents took place in Jiribam.
