HYDERABAD: Though dust settled on Lok Sabha elections in the state with polling taking place on Monday, political heat is unlikely to come down as Telangana will witness bypoll to the Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda Graduates' MLC constituency on May 27. Counting of votes will be taken up on June 5.
Over 4.61 lakh graduate voters, spread across 34 assembly segments in the erstwhile districts of Warangal, Khammam and Nalgonda, would cast their votes to elect their representative in the council.
As many as 52 candidates are in the fray, but the contest is likely to be triangular between
Congress, BRS and
BJP candidates. The bypoll has been necessitated following the resignation of sitting MLC Palla Rajeshwar Reddy of BRS. He won the 2023 assembly poll from Jangaon and resigned from the MLC post.
Congress has fielded Ch Naveen popularly known as 'Teenmar Mallanna. BRS has nominated A Rakesh Reddy and BJP G Premender Reddy. Both Mallanna and Premender Reddy had contested the 2021 Graduates MLC poll from the constituency with Mallanna coming second as an independent candidate and Premender of BJP secured fourth place. TJS president Kodandaram had secured third place and Congress candidate Ramulu Naik the fifth place. In all, 71 candidates had contested the in 2021.
