Renowned forensic pathologist Dr. Michael Baden has shared his thoughts on what may have led to the unexpected deaths of legendary actor Gene Hackman and his wife, Betsy Arakawa. The couple was found dead in their home last week, prompting an investigation. Initially, authorities did not suspect foul play, but as more details emerged about the condition of the scene, their deaths were later classified as “suspicious.”
Hackman, a two-time Academy Award winner, was 95 years old, while Arakawa was 63. Speaking to Fox News, Dr. Baden, the former chief medical examiner for New York City, explained that Hackman’s autopsy revealed no signs of injury or carbon monoxide poisoning. However, he reportedly had severe heart disease, which is one of the leading causes of death in the United States. Baden also suggested that high blood pressure may have played a role in his passing.
According to Fox News, Dr. Baden offered a possible scenario, speculating that Arakawa may have discovered her husband in distress and rushed to retrieve his medication. In her urgency, she could have accidentally injured herself. He noted that head injuries are not always externally visible, and it is possible she suffered internal bleeding in the brain.
“She may have struck her head on the way down and had some internal injury to the brain that doesn’t show up on the outside or bleeding in the inside of the brain,” he explained to Fox News.
