Singer Katy Perry has been dealing with a series of setbacks recently, as her Lifetimes Tour is reportedly facing poor ticket sales in the U.S. after public backlash from her recent trip to space with Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin.
According to a report by the Daily Mail, many of her concert venues still have a large number of unsold seats, raising concerns about the future of the tour. The pop star had hoped that her return to touring would be a major comeback, especially with the release of her latest album, 143. However, sources claim the response has not been as strong as expected. Some insiders believe that Katy’s 11-minute Blue Origin space flight, which drew heavy criticism, may have negatively affected public interest in her performances.
The tour officially began in Mexico, where Katy was forced to cancel two shows on May 1 and 2 in Guadalajara because the stadium was not ready in time. This added to the growing list of issues she is facing. She is now preparing to kick off her U.S. shows starting May 7 in Houston, Texas. But reports say that many of the venues for her upcoming U.S. dates still show rows of empty seats available on Ticketmaster, even with ticket prices as low as $50.
Cities like Minneapolis, Denver, and Oklahoma City are reportedly showing especially weak ticket sales. While there are some VIP packages priced at $200 and resale tickets listed for over $1,000, it remains unclear how many of those have been sold. Meanwhile, a few shows — including those outside of the U.S. and a stop in Chicago on May 12 — seem close to selling out.
Even before her space flight, there were worries that her tour wouldn’t attract large crowds. But the recent backlash appears to have made things worse. The reaction to her album 143 has also been lukewarm, which has added to the challenges she’s currently facing.
Despite all the issues, sources say Katy is staying focused on her family and is still determined to give her fans the best experience she can on stage. While some of her shows are struggling, she is reportedly trying to remain positive and is hoping that things will improve as the tour continues.
