Sebastian Stan and all the co-stars of the franchise’s latest film ‘Thunderbolts’ have been taking on the name change religiously. In a recent video that was shared on online social media platforms by Marvel Studios, we can see Sebastian Stan changing one such poster in public.
Sebastian Stan changes his own character poster
The video, which was shared online by the studio's official social media pages, has since then gone viral. The video is simple and shows actor Sebastian Stan changing one of the movie’s posters with one that contains their new name.
The actor can be seen walking down the street with a bunch of rolls of the poster in his hand. He then passes a bus stop billboard which features his character poster for ‘Thunderbolts*.’ The actor stops and looks at it for a moment, and drops all the rolls on the floor to change the poster.
The billboard already has pieces of tape attached to it, which the actor uses to roll out and stick the new poster over the billboard. While nothing is different in the posters, the name change plays a major role as they embrace their new identity, moving on from ‘Thunderbolts*’ to ‘New Avengers.’
Similar video with Florence Pugh
In light of addressing the name change and its importance in the Marvel cinematic universe,
Florence Pugh was also seen tearing off the poster with the old name and revealing the ‘New Avengers’ title underneath at a promotional event. The video was again shared by the studio on their social media platforms.
The posts have since gained a lot of traction and have gone viral. Fans have also been actively reacting to the videos and sharing how excited they are for what comes next.
Reason and importance of name change
The name change does not come as a sudden turn, as the director had revealed to EW that it was part of the script and the overall movie the entire time. He shared that "even though a lot of things, almost everything, changed around it, there was the core idea of these operatives sent to kill each other, which I thought was such a neat twist on people expecting Marvel's Suicide Squad. And then that was the ending, and it went to a very different place, but that was the one thing that was like, No matter what we do, it's going to end in that place."
The ’Thunderbolts*’ adopt the new name when they’re lured in front of cameras that are live streaming for TV, where the movie’s villain ‘Val’ announces to the world that she has been working behind creating a team of heroes since the Avengers are no longer there. She calls them the ‘New Avengers’, and the name sticks.
