Sharon Stone and Gwyneth Paltrow stepped in to defend Selena Gomes as she has once again become the subject of online body-shaming. The backlash against these trolls gained attention when content creator Tova Leigh called out men who made negative comments about the singer’s appearance.
In 2023, Selena addressed her weight fluctuations, explaining that her lupus medication contributed to the changes. Despite her transparency, online criticism continued. Recently, a viral Instagram video comparing Selena’s current appearance to her 2015 look reignited the issue with some social media users posting harsh comments about her weight.
Tova Leigh shared a powerful Instagram reel exposing those responsible for the hurtful remarks. The video not only highlighted Selena’s before and after pictures but also included profile pictures of the men who had criticized her. Leigh captioned the post, “Men responding to Selena Gomez… The nerve of some of these guys! Letting their own profile pictures speak for themselves.
The post quickly gained traction, drawing support from Sharon Stone and Gwyneth Paltrow. Sharon sarcastically responded in the comments, writing, “(clapping and laughing emoji) men; you’re so attractive.” Meanwhile, Paltrow added showing her solidarity with Gomez.
Selena has previously opened up about the emotional toll of body-shaming. Speaking to E! News, she revealed that the relentless comments deeply affected her saying, “It depends on the month, to be honest. I really noticed when people started attacking me for that. It got to me big time. That really messed me up for a bit.”
The singer also admitted that the negativity led her to take a break from social media. Upon returning, she adopted a new approach — posting content without engaging with her timeline. She explained, “I’m very happy with living my life and being present. I’ll post a photo and walk away, for me that’s it. I don’t care to expose myself to everyone and hear what they have to say.”
Recently Selena wowed fans at the SAG Awards, where she turned heads in a custom navy Celine dress paired with bold red lipstick. Her sleek bob haircut also drew comparisons to Snow White’s iconic look.
Gomez has continued to thrive professionally. Her role in 'Emilia Perez' earned her a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actress – Motion Picture. Additionally, she won a SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series for her hit show 'Only Murders in the Building.
