Veteran actress Hema Malini, while addressing a gathering at the Waves Summit 2025, expressed her concerns about the current state of filmmaking, contrasting it sharply with her own experiences in the industry. She further stated that contemporary films are overly violent and gruesome, lacking the pleasantness and happiness that characterized her era.

"My Time Was The Best," Says Hema Malini
In an interview with HT City, Hema Malini reminisced about her career, stating, "That was the best time I must say. I am really lucky to have worked in so many films under so many directors. Very few people get that opportunity. I am very proud to be a part of this beautiful film industry. If someone talks bad about this industry, I feel very sad.” She further emphasised on how the Industry has poured love on many, giving them the name, fame and glory. She further shared her belief of being dedicated and concentrating on work without getting distracted is a key to creating a name in the industry.
When asked about the current state of Bollywood, Hema Malini voiced her disapproval. "My time was the best," she reiterated, before adding, "Aaj ki film theek hai, acha hai, bana rahe hain bechare, sab bana rahe hain. (It’s okay, everyone is trying to make films.)” She also added that the content now-a-days is very gruesome and violent ,expressing her disinterest towards watching anything. She also said, “Everybody is having a sword in their hand and killing everybody. Kuch bhi pleasant, happiness dene vala nahi hai (There is nothing pleasant that gives you happiness.)” She lamented the prevalence of dark and violent themes, expressing her discomfort with the lack of uplifting content.
