Do you think Sanam Teri Kasam resonated with audiences more than other recent releases?
Directed by
Radhika Rao and
Vinay Sapru, the film stars Harshvardhan Rane and
Mawra Hocane in a heartbreaking love story inspired by the Shiva-Sati legend and Erich Segal’s novel Love Story. Despite its emotional appeal, the film was a commercial failure upon its initial release, grossing below expectations against a budget of Rs 14 crore.
However, its cult following and nostalgia factor appear to have played a crucial role in its re-release success. The film’s box office performance has also surpassed that of newer releases such as 'Loveyapa' (Rs 2.35 crore) and Badass Ravikumar (Rs 3.15 crore), reaffirming its enduring popularity.
ETimes rated the film with a solid 2.5 out of 5 and our review reads, "A brooding, disgruntled, gruffly man with a heart of gold falls in love with a simple girl from a traditional family... quite an unlikely pair? Well, not for Bollywood atleast. But you forgive director duo Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru just because of their perfect casting. When everything falls flat in the film, the lead pair hold the forte with their effortless chemistry. For a romantic drama, the film has its most essential element right - the love story is impeccable."

The box-office performance of 'Sanam Teri Kasam' has taken everyone by surprise, surpassing February 7 releases like the much-hyped 'Loveyapa' featuring Junaid Khan and Khushi Kapoor, and Himesh Reshammiya’s 'Badass Ravikumar.' While 'Sanam Teri Kasam' collected over Rs 6 crores on Sunday, 'Loveyapa' and 'Badass Ravikumar' lagged behind with Rs 1.65 crore and Rs 1.5 crore, respectively. This unexpected success stands out as a rare phenomenon, given that most re-releases typically fail to create such a buzz at the box office.
