When Salman Khan was 'upset' with Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 'depressive' ending in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam': 'I would have let her go with the guy she loved...'
Salman Khan was reportedly unhappy with the climax of Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam as Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s character, Nandini, chose her husband Vanraj (Ajay Devgn) over his character, Sameer. Despite this, the 1999 Sanjay Leela Bhansali classic remains a beloved romantic film.
According to Bollywood Shaadi, in a throwback interview, Salman shared that he was unhappy with the depressive ending of Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. He believed love should triumph over traditions. Salman also mentioned that if he had directed the film, he would have given it a different conclusion.

The actor further expressed his disagreement with the ending of Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, stating that Sanjay Leela Bhansali aimed for a depressive high. He believed love should prevail over traditions and felt Nandini should have chosen Sameer over her husband, despite Vanraj’s kindness. If he had directed the film, he would have altered the conclusion.

The climax of Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam took an unexpected turn as Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s Nandini chose to stay with her husband Vanraj (Ajay Devgn), despite his efforts to reunite her with Sameer (Salman Khan). This conclusion left audiences divided, especially disappointing those who hoped for Nandini and Sameer’s reunion.
