Actor Prajin Padmanabhan, who was last seen in the action thriller Tharaipadai, is all excited as he talks to us about venturing into a new territory in his career. “I have never done a full-fledged commercial action film like Tharaipadai; I played a gangster named David in it. He wears an all-black outfit, similar to what Simbu sir wore in Thotti Jaya. We felt it would be stylish and easily bring out the negative shade of the character,” he begins.
The actor recollects the compliments he received from Snehkan and Ambika after they saw Tharaipadai and shares, “They told me that they came expecting a normal film and were surprised to see me in a full-on action film.”
Stressing that playing an action hero isn’t easy, Prajin says, “When we beat up someone onscreen, it should be convincing. I was initially apprehensive about whether I could pull off heavy action, but Tharaipadai's director, Ramprabha, motivated me and said that the film has a story to back up these sequences.”
The actor refers to Vikram and Dhanush as his inspirations and states, “Whenever I watch their films, I feel I should also go on to be like them. They are both brilliant actors. Vikram sir is very dedicated, and Dhanush sir has now gone to Hollywood. They have taught me that time will make me achieve my goals if I’m focused and consistent.”
Prajin, who began his film journey with the 2006 Jiiva film Dishyum, says, “It’s been 19 years since I entered the industry. Now, I have reached a position where people think that a film starring me will make some business. Rather than winning or losing, I want to create a mindset among the audience that I’m still at it and continuing to perform well. None of my films have been dropped yet. For me, the struggle now lies in releasing a film that creates a wider impact for myself.”
Touching upon his upcoming projects, Prajin says, “I’m playing an investigative officer in Raanjha. I have done a cameo in Arul Ajith’s Idumbankaari; it stars Sshivada and Ramya Pandian.”
