Rajinikanth's 'Coolie' with Lokesh Kanagaraj to hit theatres on August 14

The makers of director Lokesh Kanagaraj's eagerly awaited action movie Coolie, featuring superstar Rajinikanth, have finally announced the official release date.
On April 4, Lokesh took to his official X (formerly Twitter) account to share the much-anticipated announcement:

The movie is set to hit theatres on August 14, coinciding with Independence Day. Lokesh and his team wrapped up the shooting of the much-awaited action entertainer last month.
Coolie also features several top stars, including Nagarjuna Akkineni, Upendra Rao, Soubin Shahir, and Sathyaraj in key roles. Bollywood star Aamir Khan is also expected to make a cameo appearance in the film. The cast further includes Shruti Haasan, Reba Monica John, and Junior MGR in pivotal roles. The movie is produced by Kalanithi Maran.
The film’s music is composed by Anirudh Ravichander, while Girish Gangadharan is handling the cinematography.
Coolie is one of the most highly anticipated projects for multiple reasons. Notably, Sathyaraj and Rajinikanth are reuniting on screen after almost 38 years. The two were last seen together in the Tamil blockbuster Mr Bharath (1986), where Sathyaraj played Rajinikanth's father. Interestingly, Sathyaraj had reportedly turned down roles in some of Rajinikanth's earlier films, including Enthiran and Sivaji.

Meanwhile, Rajinikanth is also collaborating with Nelson Dilipkumar for 'Jailer 2', the sequel to the 2023 blockbuster.
Lokesh Kanagaraj is additionally expected to direct sequels to the Thalapathy Vijay starrer 'Leo' and the Karthi starrer 'Kaithi'.
