From ‘Musk Steals’ to ‘That’s a Lie’ - Here are all the protest signs and their meanings at Donald Trump’s address to Congress

Donald Trump’s address to Congress! That’s all anybody can talk about right now.
The President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, delivered an address to a joint session of Congress on Tuesday that has been making headlines for all the valid reasons.
In the speech — Trump's first address to Congress in his second term — the president touted his 2024 election win before ticking through a laundry list of actions he's taken since his inauguration, including ending foreign aid, banning trans athletes from participating in school sports and enacting sweeping cuts to the size of the federal government through the "DOGE" initiative led by billionaire Elon Musk.

Although the session drew Republican applause, it also triggered silence and protest from Democrats as he outlined key actions taken during his first six weeks in office.
In addition to that, there were several protest signs as well that were shown as Trump made his speech at the Congress.
The protesting Democrats not only staged walkouts, but they also held up various signs registering their protest. Lawmakers removed their jackets to reveal T-shirts with messages like ‘Resist’, ‘No Kings Live Here’, and ‘No More Kings’. Several House Democratic lawmakers, including Representatives Maxwell Frost of Florida and Jasmine Crockett of Texas, even walked out while wearing “resist” T-shirts.

Democratic Representative Al Green even stood up during Trump’s remarks and declared that the president lacked a mandate, prompting Republican Representative Nancy Mace to shout, “Sit your ass down!”
Here are all the protest signs that were held up.

“This is Not Normal”

One Democrat, Congresswoman Melanie Stansbury, held up a sign next to Trump that read “This is Not Normal” as the president entered the House Chamber before his speech. Lance Gooden, a Republican congressman from Texas, grabbed the piece of paper and threw it in the air. However, the New Mexico lawmaker was proud to share the snap on her X (formerly, Twitter) profile. She tweeted, “This is not normal. We will resist,” with a picture of the big moment that amassed heavy attention during Donald Trump's Congress address on social media.

“False”

Some protesters raised the ‘False’ placard to highlight Trump’s “misleading” statements as he continued to speak about how he has done more work in 43 days than the previous government did in four years.

“Musk Steals”

This message was intended to highlight concerns about Trump’s policies, particularly regarding healthcare, veteran services, and his administration’s ties to billionaire Elon Musk, who has played a prominent role in government efficiency reforms.

“That’s a Lie”

Rep. Rashida Tlaib, who is the first Palestinian American woman to serve in Congress and one of the first two Muslim women elected to Congress, was holding a small dry erase board on which she wrote messages including: "no king!" and "that's a LIE!"

“Save Medicaid”

Trump was complaining about Democratic support, California Democratic Rep. Gil Cisneros yelled: "But the stock market," while Michigan Democratic Rep. Rashida Tlaib yelled "save Medicaid."

“Protect Veterans”

Among those in attendance were a disabled veteran from Arizona, a Maryland healthcare worker, and a former forestry employee from California who worked on wildfire prevention. Their presence served as a pointed critique of Trump’s workforce reductions and budget cuts that affected federal employees.
While Trump’s speech was underway, Texas Democrat Rep. Al Green, stood and yelled, "You don't have a mandate," before Republican Speaker of the House Mike Johnson ordered him removed. Green announced in February that he would file articles of impeachment against Trump over “injustice in Gaza.”
Green later told a media scrum captured by CSPAN, "I'll accept the punishment. It's worth it to let people know that there's some of us who are going to stand up to against this president's desire to cut Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security.”
