'Need, not an achievement': UP CM Yogi Adityanath on bulldozer action

Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath said that the 'bulldozer model' used by his government is a necessity rather than an achievement. He justified its use for both infrastructure development and removing illegal structures. Earlier, Adityanath emphasised that law and order are upheld through these actions, and opponents must be dealt with in a language they understand to maintain justice.

NEW DELHI: Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday said that he doesn't consider 'bulldozer model' of his government as an "achievement" but as a "need."
When asked about UP government's 'bulldozer action', the BJP leader in an exclusive interview with PTI said, "This is not an achievement, this was a need here (Uttar Pradesh) and whatever we felt was necessary regarding that need."

Should bulldozer actions be more regulated in the future?
"Even today, if there is any encroachment anywhere, then a bulldozer is used to clear it. So, the bulldozer can provide infrastructure as well as remove encroachment, and I think we have taught people to use it in a better way," he added.

The UP CM, who has garnered headlines for his bulldozer actions against encroachment, often faces backlash from opposition.
Earlier, while responding to criticism over 'bulldozer action', he said that sometimes people need to be explained things in a "language" they understand.
"Those who believe in justice, justice is done for them. Those who take justice and law into their own hands, they are taught a lesson in the framework of law. It should be explained in the language in which they understand it. If someone comes in front of us as a violent person to attack us, should we stand in front of him? No, if he comes as a violent person, then we will have to respond to his violence there," he told ANI last week.
