Around 11 AM today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Prayagraj for the Maha Kumbh Mela and took a sacred dip in the Sangam. The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) made the announcement on Tuesday.
With millions of devotees from all over the world, the Maha Kumbh Mela is the largest spiritual and cultural gathering in the world. This event started on Paush Purnima (January 13), and will continue till Mahashivratri on February 26, which will provide pilgrims an opportunity to take part in holy rituals and seek divine blessings.
PM Modi also visited the holy confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers, known as the Triveni Sangam, and performed rituals.
Enhancing infrastructure for pilgrims and tourists
PM Modi has been proactive in taking initiatives to upgrade the facilities at key pilgrimage locations. When he last visited Prayagraj on December 13, 2024, he officially inaugurated 167 development projects valued at INR 5,500 crore. Devotees and tourists attending the Maha Kumbh Mela can now have a smooth experience thanks to these efforts, which have greatly improved connectivity, amenities, and services for both locals and visiting pilgrims.
Royal and global participation
Prominent international leaders have also participated in the Maha Kumbh Mela 2025. On Tuesday, King Jigme Khesar Namgyal Wangchuk of Bhutan travelled to Prayagraj and participated in a number of important religious events. His attendance at the revered assembly emphasises the significance of the occasion for cultural tourism and its attraction on a global scale.

Massive turnout for Amrit Snan
Over 12.5 million devotees participated in the third "Amrit Snan," which was held on Basant Panchami. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath were among the dignitaries who attended, and strict security measures were in place to guarantee everyone's safety.
