Hardik Pandya was one of the young Indian talents snapped up by the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the 2015 IPL auction thanks to their impressive scouting system. He was bought by the Mumbai-based franchise for just INR 10 Lakhs. The all-rounder from Baroda was impressive right from the first season. He went on to play for India soon after, making his T20I debut against Australia in 2016. He made his ODI debut later in the same year against New Zealand. In 2017, Hardik Pandya made his Test debut against Sri Lanka. The right-handed batting all-rounder earned almost elevenfold from IPL 2018 onwards till the 2021 season, earning INR 11 Crores annually at MI. In the 2022 IPL mega auction, Hardik Pandya was purchased by the new franchise at the time Gujarat Titans for INR 15 Crores. He became the captain of GT and led them to their maiden IPL title in the franchise’s very first season in the league in 2022. He has had stints as captain of India as well in the past couple of years.
Ahead of the 2024 IPL auction, MI reportedly paid GT INR 100 Crores in an all-cash deal to get Pandya back in the Mumbai Indians team. Hardik replaced Rohit Sharma as MI captain in the 2024 season, however, the team had a dismal performance throughout the 2024 campaign as MI finished in the bottom half of the table. Hardik Pandya will be back as captain of MI in the 2025 IPL season.
