Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals recent match marked the 15th Super Over in IPL history, with DC emerging victorious. Mitchell Starc was named Player of the Match in this encounter, which saw both teams tied at 189 runs.
The Super Over format was introduced in IPL 2009 as a tiebreaker mechanism when matches end in a tie. The inaugural Super Over took place between Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals, with RR coming out victorius in the super over.

Notably, Delhi Capitals were also involved in the previous Super Over before this one, facing Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2021, which they won with Prithvi Shaw as the Player of the Match.

The 2020 IPL season witnessed the most Super Overs, with four matches requiring this tiebreaker. These involved Mumbai Indians vs Royal Challengers Bangalore, Delhi Capitals vs Punjab Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders vs Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Punjab Kings vs Mumbai Indians.

In 2014, there was a rare instance where the Super Over between Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals also ended in a tie. Rajasthan Royals were declared the winners based on the boundary count rule.
