GTA 6’s wanted system may introduce realistic suspect recognition and AI upgrades

Leaked reports suggest that Grand Theft Auto VI will feature an advanced wanted system with improved police AI, making law enforcement's response more realistic. Enhanced suspect identification, dynamic NPC witness reports, and social media implications may change how players evade the police, requiring tactics like changing clothes, vehicles, and disguises to successfully escape.

Leaked reports indicate that Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) may include a more sophisticated wanted system, improving police AI to provide a more realistic and dynamic law enforcement reaction. While in earlier games, evading the police had rather formulaic mechanics, GTA 6 may make players twice as hesitant to commit crimes, as law enforcement may employ wiser tactics, improved suspect identification, and even social media to locate them.

Enhanced police AI and a more realistic suspect identification system

Police AI in past GTA games used to depend on a simple escalating model, commit a crime, become wanted, and withstand increasingly aggressive police pursuit. GTA 6 may go beyond that by incorporating a more advanced suspect identification system.
Based on leaks, the police may not even be aware of who perpetrated a crime immediately. NPCs can give descriptions of the suspects based on what they witnessed instead. If the character is dressed in a specific outfit or is operating a known vehicle, the police will go out of their way to look for those characteristics instead of indiscriminately pursuing anyone in the area. This may imply that changing clothes, mask-wearing, or even changing the appearance of your vehicle may be an important factor in getting away from the police.
Social media is also reportedly present in GTA 6's universe, perhaps enabling NPCs to film and share videos of crimes. This would further make it difficult for a player to evade, since a widely shared video could make it even more difficult to remain hidden.

Dynamic pursuits and smarter evasion mechanics

Another significant alteration might be the way police respond based on what they learn. If a police officer sees the player's getaway car but can't clearly see the driver, they may only send out an APB on the vehicle. This would make players have to change cars to evade capture, instead of outrunning the police in the same vehicle.
It may also bring new methods of gameplay for players, like fading into crowds, evading surveillance-intensive areas, or altering one's looks in the middle of a chase. If Rockstar Games fully integrates these functionalities, it may revolutionize player interaction with law enforcement, making each crime and pursuit more realistic and impactful.
These rumored changes to GTA 6’s wanted system suggest a more immersive and challenging experience than ever before. By making police AI smarter and adding realistic suspect recognition, Rockstar may create a more dynamic world where players must outthink law enforcement rather than just outrun them. If these leaks prove true, GTA 6 could set a new standard for open-world crime simulations.
