Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli has said that if he gets an opportunity, he would like to be an NBA player for a day. Antonelli has been the most promising rookie this year, with impressive performances on the track among the F1 biggies. In a candid interview with Formula 1, the 18-year-old revealed that he would like to be an NBA player as well as a car designer for a day if he gets such a chance.

Kimi Antonelli opens up about his lesser known interests

Kimi Antonelli sat for a candid interview with Formula1.com and was asked which other jobs he wishes he could try for a day. Sharing his hidden interests, the Italian said, “I would like to be a car designer, so designing my own car, or designing my own house! I would like to be an NBA [basketball] player for a day. I’ve really gotten passionate into NBA. I’ve never watched a game [in person], but I’m really looking forward to when we’re going to be racing in the US. I think it’s pretty cool. These three are the main jobs.”
Also sharing his interest in music as well, he further added, “I really like music as well, but I’m a really, really terrible singer… I would probably need a lot of auto-tune, like only auto-tune, because it would just sound terrible to the ears!”

Antonelli has a lot to be proud of this season. He is currently one position better than seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton in the F1 Driver Standings. While Hamilton is in 7th, Kimi is in 6th with 38 points. His best performance was in the season opener in Australia, where he got fourth position. He came sixth in the following two races, the Chinese Grand Prix and the Japanese Grand Prix. He slipped to 11th at the Bahrain Grand Prix but bounced back to 6th position at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix in Jeddah.

Antonelli has been driving alongside George Russell and has impressively filled Hamilton’s vacant seat at Mercedes after the latter moved to Ferrari this year. Not only has he done justice to his seat at Mercedes, but he has also performed much better than his champion predecessor. He will now be participating in the upcoming Miami Grand Prix in Florida. It is scheduled from May 2-4.
