A mishap led to worrisome affairs during Wednesday night's game between the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Chicago Cubs at PNC Park. A fan accidentally fell from the right-field stands onto the field. The incident took place while the game was going on. Moments after the incident, the Pirates released a statement about it.
Fan sustained injuries while teams responded quickly
The situation became even more tense when the fan accidentally fell down from the right-field stands. The team, Pittsburgh Pirates shared the statement, without divulging into too many details. The team said:
"Tonight, during the seventh inning of the game at PNC Park, an adult male fell from the right field bleachers onto the field of play. Pittsburgh EMS, as well as the Pirates and Cubs athletic training teams and other PNC Park personnel reacted and responded immediately and administered care. He was transported to Allegheny General Hospital. No further information is available at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family."
According to CBS News, the incident happened during the seventh inning when Andrew McCutchen hit the ball. When the ball rolled down the infield and bounced into shallow right field, a fan fell over the railing into the field. Right after the incident, another person jumped down from a lower part of the wall to help. While it is not clear if this second person was a family member or just someone nearby trying to assist the person who fell.
Pirates and Cubs express concerns over the mishap
Pittsburgh Pirates’ manager, Derek Shelton said:
“I want to offer thoughts and prayers with the incident that happened earlier in the game and thank both our medical staff, the Cubs' medical staff, EMS, everybody that got to the gentleman, and just ask everybody to keep him in your prayers.”Meanwhile, Craig Counsell, Chicago Cubs’ manager said:
“I hope the gentleman’s OK, I’m thinking about his family and him right now. Obviously scary. I didn’t see it happen, but I saw it out there after the play. I just hope everything turns out OK.”Chicago Cubs’ Dansby Swanson said:
