Yankees replace injured Marcus Stroman with a Triple-A pitcher

The New York Yankees put pitcher Marcus Stroman on the 15-day injured list Friday with inflammation in his left knee in a dud performance against the San Francisco Giants on April 11, 2025. Marcus Stroman's injury leads to roster changes

On Friday, April 11, 2025, the San Francisco Giants were playing at Yankee Stadium against the Yankees. Pitcher Marcus Stroman pitched poorly on the field. He earned only two outs while allowing five runs in a game that the Yankees lost 9-1. The game was finally suspended in the sixth inning because the rain was getting worse and worse.

After playing the game, Stroman reported pain in his left knee and underwent medical checks, such as X-rays, to determine how bad the condition was. Towards later that Saturday, April 12, the Yankees placed Stroman on the 15-day injured list because of left knee inflammation.

Allan Winans called up to fill a void

Having Stroman unavailable, the Yankees summoned Allan Winans from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders as a stopgap. Winans, who the Atlanta Braves DFA'd in January 2025 only to be reinstated, boasts fairly significant major league experience. Winans had only 8 appearances for the Braves, going 1-4 with a 7.20 ERA. That said, he had quite a good performance during his stay in Triple-A, concluding the second half of the 2024 season with a 3.30 ERA.
The group is banking on Winans to step in for Stroman and provide some steadiness to a rotation that has had issues with volatility to date. The Yankees have been forced to deal with a succession of injuries to important pitchers this year, including Gerrit Cole and Luis Gil, which have prevented the team from being consistent on the hill.
Manager Aaron Boone was optimistic that Winans could probably fit in the big leagues and still help lead a team through the slump it's in.
“It's tough, but we've got to figure out a way to get it done, ” Boone said.
With the Yankees already plagued by injuries, Winans will be a key piece in helping the pitching staff and helping the team put them out.
