Aaron Rodgers' time with the New York Jets came to an abrupt and controversial end, reportedly due to a disrespectful move by newly appointed head coach Aaron Glenn. Just 20 minutes into a meeting with team executives on February 6, Rodgers was informed he was no longer part of the Jets' future plans, something that caught him completely off guard.

Aaron Rodgers describes 'strange' Jets meeting, says team had already moved on

Sources close to the situation say Aaron Glenn made it clear he didn’t want Aaron Rodgers around neither as a player nor a person in the locker room. This cold dismissal angered several Jets players, including Quinnen Williams, who publicly expressed his frustration over the decision.
On The Pat McAfee Show, Rodgers said his chat with the Jets' new coach and GM was brief and made it clear they’d already moved on from him. “That was kind of strange…,” Rodgers said. “I think we are going to have this long conversation. I’ve flown across the country, and 20 seconds in, he (Glenn) goes and he leans to the edge of his seat and says, ‘so you want to play football?’ And I’m like, ‘Yeah, I’m interested.’ And he was like, ‘We’re going in a different direction at quarterback.”
“I was kind of shocked. Not shocked because I didn’t think it was a possibility, but shocked because I just flew across the country and you could’ve told me this over the phone,” Rodgers continued.

According to Rodgers, the Jets seemed more focused on how the news would be presented publicly than having a real conversation with him. He called them out, saying bluntly, "I don’t give a s–t about the messaging. Why?"—making it clear he cared more about honesty than PR.
“It was a very strange meeting, for sure,” the QB further continued. “There was no me pleading, ‘please have me on the team.’ I don’t want to be a part of that. It was already a debacle in some cases. That whole situation was crazy. That was a little rogue by the head coach.”
“I’m open to anything and attached to nothing,” he said. “Retirement still could be a possibility. … Right now my focus is, and has been, and will continue to be on my personal life.”Rodgers wrapped it up by shutting down any talk about money being the issue. “It ain’t about the money,” Rodgers said on Thursday. “I’ll play for 10Ms. I don’t care. I never once said I needed a multi-year deal.”
Rodgers was also allegedly asked to stop his weekly appearances on "The Pat McAfee Show" and commit more fully to team activities, including training camp. These moves were seen as Glenn trying to establish authority and reset the team culture, but they reportedly created more tension than unity.

Now, with Rodgers out, the Jets are focusing on a rebuild with new quarterback Justin Fields and a fresh direction under Glenn. As for Rodgers, he’s considering retirement or possibly joining a new team but he's made it clear that money isn’t his priority.
