Pittsburgh Steelers have eyes on Oregon DT Derrick Harmon as their first-round NFL draft pick

The Pittsburgh Steelers are reportedly eyeing Oregon defensive lineman Derrick Harmon as a potential first-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. This shift in focus comes after the team moved on from veteran defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi, seeking a younger player for the position. Harmon recently visited the Steelers facility, further fueling speculation about their interest.

Not quarterback Aaron Rodgers, but defensive lineman Derrick Harmon is now the new favorite of the Pittsburgh Steelers. An X user rightly wrote, “My Steelers 1st round predictions 1. They won’t trade up 2. They won’t trade down 3. They won’t take a QB 4. They’ll take Derrick Harmon if he’s there.”
According to StatMuse, the Pittsburgh Steelers ranked 8th in the 2024-2025 NFL defense. They need to look after their defensive line, but more than their quarterback? They have still not claimed Aaron Rodgers as their QB, with all the overindulging-ly building buzz around the ayahuasca retreat lover. And now we hear they have moved their focus from QB to DT! Particularly Oregon’s defensive tackle Derrick Harmon.

Derrick Harmon is a clear favorite of the Pittsburgh Steelers for their first round 2025 NFL Draft

Andrew Fillipponi, “I talk about Sports in Pittsburgh on @937thefan”, wrote on his X platform, “Derrick Harmon has emerged as the “clear favorite” to be the Steelers 1st round pick. Quote: “he’s the total package.” Art Rooney II has been very vocal about the Steelers addressing the D-line. Something that didn’t happen in free agency. Stay tuned.”
An X user commented, “If Rodgers is signed before the draft....sure. If not, it would be completely dumb.” Another wrote, “It’s gunna be the better DL prospect, Kenneth Grant.” vouching for another 2025 NFL Draft prospect - Kenneth Grant. 21-year-old Kenneth Grant from Michigan Wolverines was ranked No. 2 overall pick in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft by Jacksonville Jaguars according to Sports Illustrated. The Jaguars were to arrange a meeting with Kenneth Grant, according to SI.

The Pittsburgh Steelers had called DT Derrick Harmon last week for a visit - have they settled for him now?

Pittsburgh Steelers parted ways with their 30-year-old DT Larry Ogunjobi in December 2024 after three years - leaving enough space for a new DT. On April 9, Ray Fittipaldo, Beat Reporter for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, wrote on his X, “The Steelers are playing host to three college prospects today: Oregon DL Derrick Harmon, UNC RB Omarion Hampton, and Oklahoma State RB Ollie Gordon II.”
And now, on the radio, Andrew Fillipponi shared that the Steelers could pick Derrick Harmon in their first-round 2025 NFL draft. They moved on from Larry Ogunjobi because they wanted a younger player for that position. Would it be the 21-year-old 2025 NFL Draft prospect - Derrick Harmon? Only time will tell. And, of course, the official X account of the Pittsburgh Steelers will tell!
