WWE star Kevin Owens, who is facing a significant hiatus due to his serious neck injury, has revealed recently how Jim Ross played a pivotal role in his life and helped him in learning English. Kevin Owens has credited wrestling commentary for making him polish his speaking skills.
Earlier, Kevin Owens announced on last week’s SmackDown that he would not be joining the WrestleMania match against Randy Orton owing to his serious neck injury. Owens claimed he needs to undergo immediate neck surgery and will be gone from the roster for an extended period.

WWE star Kevin Owens reveals how he learned English speaking skills by watching wrestling

WWE Superstar Kevin Owens recently talked about how watching professional wrestling, especially Jim Ross's commentary, was crucial to his English language learning. The WWE superstar opened this up during a podcast on "Insight with Chris van Vliet."
Owens, who was born in Canada's French-speaking province of Quebec, started watching professional wrestling when he was eleven years old. He recalled that although he first struggled with speaking English, he began to improve by listening to Ross's animated commentary on WWE broadcasts.

However, he was able to comprehend English effectively by the age of 14, and by the time he started wrestling training at the age of 17, he was fluent.
During the podcast, Owens said, "I started watching wrestling when I was 11, so I kind of started picking it up. Then my dad would watch TV in English, so I watched some TV shows with him, here and there. I remember Friends, I'd watch a lot with him. And then I think I'd say by the time I was maybe 14, I couldn't speak English that well, but I understood everything. I like to say Jim Ross basically taught me English."

While further discussing how Jim Ross played a key role in his learning of the language, he revealed that he commonly used the word “ slobberknocker.”He further added, "So I actually thought that slobber knocker was part of the English language. I thought it was a normal word, and I would use it in everyday life, and it made no sense.”
Moreover, Owens revealed that he still speaks French with his parents, but continues to converse in English with his wife and kids.

Will Kevin Owens return in 2025?

It is now expected that the WWE star will be away for the entire year. According to Fightful Select, Kevin Owens’ surgery has not taken place yet, and he is not expected to return in 2025. Reports also suggest that the former Universal Champion might even miss WrestleMania 42 next year, as he is still not fit for the Mania card.
Earlier in an interview with My Mom’s Basement show with Robbie Fox, Kevin Owens opened up about his injury. He stated in the interview that he knows people who have experienced the same injury and have been out of work for six months to a year.

He added to the interview, “I haven’t talked to the surgeon or anything like that yet. I’m going to do all that on Monday. I mean, I know that most of the people who have gone through similar things have probably, you know, six months to eight months to a year. So I would assume within that range, but I don’t really know. Like I said, it’s all really new right now.”
