Elon Musk in yet another population decline ‘warning’: ‘Many countries are disappearing…’

Elon Musk warns about global population decline, stating many countries are on the verge of disappearing. He highlights that immigration can't stabilize the severe population drops, citing Japan's shrinking population as a critical example. Musk emphasizes the urgent need to address declining birth rates to preserve distinct cultures and prevent national extinctions.
Elon Musk in yet another population decline ‘warning’: ‘Many countries are disappearing…’
Elon Musk has, once again, sounded the alarm over population decline, cautioning that many countries are on the brink of disappearing. Taking to his social media handle X, Musk emphasised that immigration alone cannot compensate for the severe population drops seen worldwide.
“Many countries are disappearing,” Musk wrote in his latest commentary on global demographics.
He argued that while immigration can provide temporary relief to countries facing workforce shortages, it is not a viable long-term solution to a widespread and accelerating population crisis.
“Immigration cannot solve billions in population collapse. It simply isn’t physically possible. More importantly, we should not lose entire, distinct cultures!” the tech billionaire added.
Musk, who has repeatedly raised concerns about declining birth rates, was responding to a report which claimed that Japan faces an existential threat with its rapidly declining birthrate. Tohoku University’s demographer Hiroshi Yoshida predicts the nation could cease to exist by 2720, with only one under-14 child remaining.
The report also claimed that a significant drop in the child population has accelerated this timeline. With an aging population, economic struggles, and declining marriage rates, Japan's future hangs in the balance. The government is implementing various measures, including promoting dating, offering financial incentives, and increasing immigration, but their effectiveness remains uncertain.

Elon Musk previously cautioned that countries will go extinct

Earlier this year, Musk issued a stark warning about declining birth rates in several Asian countries, highlighting Singapore as particularly vulnerable to population collapse. In a recent social media post, Musk cautioned that Singapore could face extinction if current trends continue, adding to his previous concerns about South Korea and Japan, though with less dire predictions for those nations.
Musk, who has consistently voiced concerns over global population decline, previously wrote, "Singapore will go extinct in some time," pointing to the city-state’s alarmingly low birth rate.
In a follow-up post, Musk shared a graph originally posted by the Tesla Owners Silicon Valley account, which illustrated the sharp decline in birth rates across several countries. The graph was captioned, “Population collapse is humanity's greatest threat... Elon Musk,” to which the billionaire responded with a "Yes.”
