Bhupesh Baghel

Bhupesh Baghel is an Indian politician and the current Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh. He was born on August 23, 1961, in Durg, Chhattisgarh in a Kurmi family. Baghel is a member of the Indian National Congress (INC) party and has been involved in state politics for several years.

Baghel began his political career as a member of the Indian Youth Congress in 1985. He has held various positions within the Congress party, including serving as the President of the Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee from 2014 to 2018. On December 17,2018, he was elected as the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, succeeding Raman Singh of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

As the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, Baghel has implemented several initiatives to improve the state's social and economic conditions. He has focused on improving healthcare and education, providing support to farmers, and creating job opportunities for the youth. In 2021, his government launched the Rajiv Gandhi Kisan Nyay Yojana, a scheme aimed at providing financial assistance to farmers in the state.

Baghel has also been the representative for the legislative assembly since 2013 from Patan constituency. Prior to this he was the sitting MLA from 1993 to 2008 winning continous elections. He also served as the Cabinet Minister of Transportation in the undivided Madhya Pradesh during Digvijaya Singh's government from 1999 to 2003.

He also held the position of the first Minister for Revenue, Public Health Engineering, and Relief Work in Chhattisgarh after it got recognition as a separate state in 2000.

Baghel has also been the deputy leader of the Opposition in the Chhattisgarh assembly.

Baghel has also been actively involved in the Indian National Congress party's national affairs. He has served as a member of the party's Central Election Committee and has played an instrumental role in the party's campaign strategy for several state elections.

Baghel was awarded the Mahatma Phule Samta Award in 2021 for his development works and crucial decisions taken towards providing justice to the deprived sections of the society during his tenure.
