If you have been to the Vaishno Devi shrine or Patnitop in Jammu and thought there was nothing else to see or do, think again. That because you could be missing the scenic delights of Sanasar aka mini Gulmarg of Jammu. This place is defined by its cup-shaped meadow, enclosed by gigantic conifers.
Things to do in Sanasar
Sanasar is an adventure hotspot. You can’t go wrong with trying paragliding, hot air ballooning, horse riding and camping when here. If you like sightseeing, visit the Nag Temple, Hidden Creek, Sanasar Lake and the waterfalls in the region. Golf lovers can experience what it means to play golf in the midst of green meadows and mountains.
Hunting for food in Sanasar
Sanasar, though being a far-flung destination, does not disappoint a tourist from a city or town with its food. In fact, the local food is well-made and full of variety such as herbs, spices, homemade dairy products and meat with special flavours. Curries are best accompanied with tandoori, bread and rice preparations.
Tips on trip planning
The ideal time to schedule a trip to Sanasar is May - June and September - October. Intending tourists are also advised to carry warm clothing in their luggage during the monsoon and winter months.
Where to stay?

Sanasar is a remote destination; therefore, tourists have only a few accommodations to choose for their stay. Go for either the JKTDC tourist bungalows or the tourist huts that come endowed with all the basic facilities for a convenient stay.
How to reach Sanasar?
Sanasar can be easily reached via a private vehicle or a taxi hired from Jammu (119 km). The nearest railhead to Sanasar is Jammu Tawi and Udhampur, which is well-linked to other parts of the country. Air fliers can take a flight to Jammu airport in order to reach Sanasar. Alternatively, tourists can also take the road from Patnitop (17 km).
The road may not be in a smooth condition, but the entire ride is worth it, considering the beautiful sight of Sanasar that one gets to behold after arrival.
