IMF deputy director Paolo Mauro hails India’s digital cash transfer scheme

Paolo Mauro, Deputy Director of International Monetary Fund (IMF), praises India's digital cash transfer schemes calling it as ‘logistical marvel’ that seek to help people at low-income levels, and reaching hundreds of millions of people. Paolo Mauro said, “It is actually quite impressive. Just because of the sheer size of the country. Its a logistical marvel how these programmes that seek to help people who are at low income levels reach hundreds of millions of people. There are programmes that specifically women, elderly, farmers. Perhaps the interesting part is that in these examples there is a lot of technological innovations. In the case of India, one thing that is striking is the use of unique identification system- the Aadhaar.”
