“Transformative vision of PM Modi…” Ashwini Vaishnaw on Rishikesh-Karnaprayag new broad gauge line project

Backing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a developed Uttarakhand, Rishikesh-Karnaprayag new broad gauge line has been proposed in the state. This railway line will be the first to reach the hinterland. Resulting in a significant reduction in travel time and cost, it will facilitate easy access to the pilgrimage centres, tourist spots, and the international border. This rail link will also provide an opportunity for industrial development, boost the economy, and give impetus to cottage industry in the area. It will also enhance travel and tourism prospects in the region. The proposed railway line will connect important towns like Devprayag, Srinagar, Rudraprayag, Gauchar and Karnaprayag through 5 districts of Uttarakhand, i.e. Dehradun, Tehri Garhwal, Pauri Garhwal, Rudraprayag, and Chamoli. Considering the topographical constraints and challenges, FLS made use of the latest technology. It took the benefit of the expertise of national and international consultants. IIT Roorkee, and eminent experts in fields of tunneling and railway bridge construction have been a part of the project.
