The British drama series ‘Adolescence’ has taken OTT by storm, quickly rising through the platform's most popular English-language shows.
According to a report by Variety, the limited series has now reached an impressive 114 million views in just 24 days, making it Netflix’s No. 4 most-watched English-language series of all time.
The show originally debuted at No. 9 on the all-time chart, pushing Bridgerton Season 2 down the list and overtaking Stranger Things Season 3, which now sits in the 10th position. As of now, only three shows are ahead of Adolescence: ‘Wednesday’ Season 1 with 252.1 million views, Stranger Things Season 4 with 140.7 million views, and ‘Dahmer: Monster’ with 115.6 million.
With two full months left in its official viewing window, many believe 'Adolescence' could still move up the list and possibly pass Dahmer and Stranger Things Season 4 in total views.
Variety also reported that between March 31 and April 6, the show gained 17.8 million views, making it the most-watched series on Netflix for the week.
The series, created by Jack Thorne and
Stephen Graham, tells the gripping story of Jamie Miller, a 13-year-old boy who is arrested after being accused of murdering his classmate Katie Leonard. The plot explores serious themes around youth, justice, and mental health, and has struck a chord with viewers around the world.
'Adolescence' features a talented cast, including Stephen Graham,
Owen Cooper, Ashley Walters, Erin Doherty, and
Faye Marsay. Their powerful performances and the show’s emotional storyline have been key reasons behind its popularity.
While Adolescence continues to break records, other series have also made a mark on Netflix. Gone Girls: The Long Island Serial Killer came in second place with 12 million views in its first week. Other titles like Pulse and Devil May Cry followed with 6.5 million and 5.3 million views, respectively. The Residence also held on with 4.6 million views in its third week.
With audiences hooked and more time for the show to climb even higher, Adolescence is shaping up to be one of Netflix’s biggest hits of the year.
