Full list of 20 electronic items exempted from Trump's tariffs

The Trump administration has rolled back some of its global tariffs, excluding smartphones, computers, semiconductors, and other advanced electronics. This decision, announced by US Customs and Border Protection, aims to ease the financial burden on American consumers. It also seeks to mitigate the impact of extensive tariff increases, particularly those targeting China, amidst concerns about rising domestic inflation.

The Trump administration in US has announced that smartphones, computers, semiconductors, and other advanced electronics will be excluded from its latest round of global tariffs.
The update, shared in a Saturday notice by the US Customs and Border Protection office, aims to reduce cost burdens on American consumers while softening the blow of wide-ranging tariff hikes, particularly targeting China.
This move represents a partial step back from the administration’s tough “reciprocal tariffs” policy, as it tries to balance trade pressure with concerns over rising domestic inflation.
Notably, these products may be subject to future duties. These exemptions represent a somewhat favourable outcome for technology companies such as Apple. As per data from Evercore ISI, Apple manufactures over 80% of its products in China, including 80% of iPads and more than half of its Mac computers.
Products exempted from the tariffs include:
  1. 8471: Automatic data processing machines and units thereof; magnetic or optical readers, machines for transcribing data onto data media in coded form and machines for processing such data, not elsewhere specified or included.
  2. 8473.30: Parts and accessories of the machines of heading 8471.
  3. 8486: Machines and apparatus of a kind used solely or principally for the manufacture of semiconductor boules or wafers, semiconductor devices, electronic integrated circuits or flat panel displays; machines and apparatus specified in note 11(C) to this chapter; parts and accessories.
