Agra: Mathura police on Saturday arrested two persons in connection with the alleged murder of a 50-year-old trader leader affiliated with the BJP, who was shot dead by unidentified assailants on Wednesday night.
According to police, two of the accused - Rajan Yadav and Yogesh Yadav - allegedly conspired to kill Garg by hiring contract killers. The two brothers, residents of BSA College Road, were reportedly involved in a land dispute with the victim.
Mathura SP (City) Arvind Singh told TOI, "Investigations revealed that the motive behind the murder was a dispute over a Rs 3.5 crore plot of land near Mokshdham (crematorium) in Mathura city. The land belongs to Rajan and Yogesh. Garg had been regularly filing complaints with authorities alleging illegal construction on the plot and demanding it be halted. This likely provoked the brothers, who allegedly conspired to kill Garg. The duo was arrested on Friday evening."
The SP added, "The Yadav brothers allegedly paid Rs 10,000 to Rakesh Joshi, 27, who runs a tea stall near the disputed plot, to murder Garg. Joshi, along with an accomplice, Sadiq, 21, procured weapons on Wednesday. The same day, when Garg visited the site with the irrigation department officials, they allegedly shot him." Rajesh and Sadiq were arrested on Saturday afternoon following a police encounter. Both sustained bullet injuries in their legs and were admitted to the Mathura district hospital for treatment.
Notably, Garg was shot dead by unidentified assailants on a motorcycle when he returning home on foot after visiting a temple. After the incident, his brother Rajendra Kumar Garg filed a complaint based on which a case was registered under BNS section 103 (1) (murder).
