KURUKSHETRA: The workers of National Health Mission (NHM) under the banner of Swasthya Karamchari Sangh Haryana held a protest in Kurukshetra for their demands, during the visit of Haryana chief minister (CM) Nayab Singh Saini on Sunday.
The NHM workers demanded to meet the CM to hand over their memorandum but they were stopped by Kurukshetra police at the barricades. As the NHM workers attempted to break the police barricades, mild force including water-cannon was used by the district police to disperse them.
The NHM workers are demanding regular jobs, pending dearness allowance and benefits are per by-laws and others.
Later, Kurukshetra DC Neha Singh went to meet the protesting NHM workers and took their memorandum in the name of CM. The DC assured the protesting NHM workers that their memorandum would be sent to the CM office. The DC through its duty magistrate ensured in writing to the NHM workers that the meeting of a five-member delegation of their union has been fixed at the CM office for March 24 at 10 am, to discuss their issues and they should proceed for the meeting as per given schedule.
About the use of force, Ladwa DSP Randhir Singh said, “NHM workers of entire Haryana had gathered at Chaudhary Devi Lal Park in Kurukshetra and they were on their way to CM residence to give their memorandum. But we stopped them from proceeding to the CM residence at barricades. A meeting of NHM workers’ representatives was organised at CM residence with a representative of CM, which concluded peacefully. After this some NHM workers went violent and broke police barricades and started pushing policemen. Some police personnel are injured. We used force and dispersed them and the situation is now under control. The NHM workers went to their homes after giving their memorandum.”
