RUDRAPUR: A complaint has been lodged against two constables from the Rampura Police Outpost in Udham Singh Nagar district for allegedly assaulting a 14-year-old boy "without any provocation" late Monday night. The victim's family claims the officers, who were allegedly intoxicated, locked the minor in a room and continued beating him. When his father arrived at the outpost to intervene, he too was assaulted.
According to the complaint filed by the boy’s father, Atiq Ahmed, his son, Aarish Mohammad, was returning home on a motorcycle after shopping for Eid in Khera Colony when he was stopped by constables Mahesh Kumar and Vijay Kumar at Indra Chowk. "Without any provocation or inquiry, they started thrashing my son in full public view," Atiq said.
He further alleged that the constables took Aarish to the police outpost, where they allegedly locked him in a room and beat him with sticks, leaving deep wounds and bruises on his body. Upon reaching the outpost to inquire about his son, Atiq was also allegedly beaten and threatened that false charges would be framed against the boy.
The incident sparked outrage among locals, who staged a protest at the police station demanding immediate action against the accused officers. Visuals of Aarish’s injuries circulated widely on social media, intensifying public anger and raising serious concerns over police brutality.
In response, Rudrapur police station inspector Manoj Raturi said, "A detailed inquiry is underway. If the policemen are found guilty, strict action will be taken”, adding that senior officials have been informed about the case.
Joining the protest, Congress leader Mohan Lal Khera condemned the incident. “This kind of police brutality is unacceptable. We demand the immediate suspension of the accused constables and a fair investigation,” he said. Traders' Union President Sanjay Juneja echoed similar sentiments, saying, “The police are supposed to protect citizens, not terrorise them. We stand with the victim’s family and demand justice.”
