Emotional well-being key issue, says President Droupadi Murmu
NEW DELHI: President Droupadi Murmu said that the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) exemplifies the holy Gita's principles of "Karma Yoga" with its dedicated service to the nation and patients. She was speaking at its 49th convocation at Bharat Mandapam on Friday.
She recognised AIIMS's global reputation for excellence in healthcare, medical education and research. "The institution provides hope to numerous patients travelling from far-off locations for treatment," she said.
The President identified emotional well-being as a significant contemporary issue. She urged AIIMS faculty to develop mental health awareness programmes to inform people about this often-overlooked condition.
She encouraged the students, doctors and researchers to assist those in need. Noting the shortage of medical professionals across regions, she expressed hope they would consider serving in such areas.
AIIMS awarded lifetime achievement honours to 8 doctors for outstanding service and 28 students and doctors received medals and book prizes, while 9 earned appreciation prizes. The ceremony conferred 1,886 degrees across various specialisation.
