Bomb threat at HC turns out to be hoax
Panaji: The high court of Bombay at Goa on Tuesday received an anonymous email claiming that an explosive device was placed on its premises. After a thorough search of the court premises, the threat turned out to be a hoax. There was no disruption in the hearing of cases.
The registrar of the high court received an email at around noon claiming, “Bomb threat, vacate the premises by 3pm”. The information was immediately passed on to the PI (security) posted at the high court, who informed the Porvorim police.
Porvorim police, the anti-terrorism squad (ATS), the bomb detection and bomb disposal squad (BDS) from both North and South Goa, and fire and emergency services personnel rushed to the high court and conducted a thorough search for nearly three hours before declaring it a hoax.
Police said that the search began on the first floor where the courtroom is situated. They said that as it was lunch break, it became easy for them to conduct the search. “There was no disruption in the hearing of cases as the courtroom was searched first,” police said.
“The source of the email is being traced with the help of the cyber cell,” North Goa SP Akshat Kaushal, said.
