Bicholim: Gusty winds and heavy rain on Tuesday evening hit horticulturists in Bicholim taluka with acute crop loss.Plantations, especially at Mayem village, were destroyed. Deepak Kinalkar, a farmer, said that the untimely rain wrecked chilli plantations and harmed banana and other plantations. “Our banana plantation, which was due to bear fruit in a few days, was devastated by the winds,” said a Krishnanagar farmer.
The disruption was reflected by the fact that Bicholim fire brigade officials received six calls for rescue over just 20 minutes during the rainy spell.
The fire brigade said the calls came from Piligao, Karapur, Desainagar, Pale and the surrounding areas. Trees crashed into electricity poles, roads, and houses.
Power outages were reported in many areas of the taluka and the supply was not restored late into the evening to Bicholim town.
