Panaji: The Union ministry of culture must establish a task force in collaboration with Goa govt to pursue the Unesco intangible cultural and heritage tag for Goan tiatr, said South Goa MP Viriato Fernandes on Thursday.
Fernandes said that Centre and the state need to make a strong effort to preserve, document, and promote Goan Tiatr. He made this demand while speaking in Parliament during zero hour.
The South Goa MP further said that members of Goa’s tiatr fraternity need to be consulted while trying to obtain the Unesco intangible cultural and heritage inscription for tiatr.
“Recognise tiatr as an important national tradition and take all necessary measures to ensure its promotion, documentation, and preservation. Engage with the Goan diaspora to take tiatr across the globe,” said Fernandes.
He also said that the Centre must encourage national and international research, academic collaborations, and digital archiving of tiatr performances to preserve its historical, artistic, and socio-cultural significance.
State govt must develop and implement a policy framework to support artists, playwrights, musicians, and support staff involved in tiatr through grants, scholarships, and heritage promotion programs, including pensions, said the Congress MP.
