DU inaugurates state-of-the-art drone lab
Dibrugarh: Dibrugarh University on Friday inaugurated a state-of-the-art drone aero-vision lab at its Institute of Engineering and Technology (DUIET), making the facility one among 31 such laboratories established by AVPL International across AICTE-approved institutions in 13 Indian states.
The virtual inauguration ceremony was attended by Union minister of civil aviation, Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu, and Union minister of state for rural development, Kamlesh Paswan. While Dibrugarh University vice-chancellor Jiten Hazarika led the proceedings, he was accompanied by Surajit Borkotokey, dean of student affairs, Pankaj Das, dean of research and development and HP Mondal, head of electronics & communications engineering, among others.
"The laboratory represents our commitment to equipping students with cutting-edge technological skills that will define the future. Drone technology is revolutionising multiple sectors. From agriculture to disaster management, our students will now be at the forefront of this innovation. We envision this facility becoming a centre of excellence, where theory meets practice.," the vice-chancellor said during the inauguration ceremony.
Housed within the electronics and communication engineering department, the lab is designed as an interdisciplinary platform open to all students from engineering and science disciplines. The laboratory will offer hands-on training opportunities, enabling students to design, build and operate various drone systems.
"The establishment of this drone aero-vision lab at DU marks a pivotal moment for technological education in the region. It aligns perfectly with our national vision of making India self-reliant in drone technology and applications," said Naidu, during the virtual ceremony.
