Aizawl: Catholic church members in Mizoram on Saturday joined the funeral of Pope Francis by holding memorial service to pay tribute to him with special holy mass in all the parishes across the state, with the main event being held at Christ the King Cathedral in Kulikawn on the southern outskirts of Aizawl.
The funeral of Pope Francis was held at St Peter's Square in Vatican City, Rome, on Saturday at 10am.
A special Requiem Mass was held at Christ the King Cathedral, presided over by Most Rev Stephen Rotluanga, Bishop of Aizawl, at 10.30am on Saturday. A large number of priests, religious nuns, brothers and a huge crowd of mourning faithful participated in the special Requiem Mass where the church members bid farewell to the departed Pope Francis, known as ‘The People's Pope'.
For those unable to attend the Holy Mass at the Christ the King Cathedral, especially for being far from Aizawl city, parish priests made separate arrangements for memorial services for the Pope, including mass or prayer services in their respective parishes and substations on the same day.
