AJMER: Governor Haribhau Bagde on Saturday claimed that an Indian named Shivkar Bapuji Talpade, working on the basis of aero-science described in Maharishi Bhardwaj's ancient Sanskrit text, flew the first aeroplane in 1895 at Chaupati of Mumbai before the Wright brothers flew their airplane in 1903. He added that Talpade learnt the Sanskrit scripture from Chiranjilal Verma.
Bagde also claimed that Copernicus gave the theory of gravity much before Newton, and even before Copernicus, Bhaskaracharya established the theory of gravity in the 11th century.
Bagde said this in his address as the chancellor at the 12th convocation of Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati University in Ajmer. He asked the varisty's students to learn technology as India will become a world leader only with technological advances.
The governor distributed medals and degrees to meritorious students. Addressing the students, he said, "India has a rich scientific tradition, and by combining the vision of modern knowledge, India will occupy the position of vishwaguru (world teacher)."
He added, "Calling the vice chancellor of university as the kulguru is a step toward restoration of the ancient Indian education system. The ancient Indian education system was perfect, and at that time, the teacher was called acharya. The conduct of the Acharya was proper, and he also had the ability to correct the character of others."
The governor said 400 vice chancellors and more than a thousand educationists from across the country made the new education policy after two years of intense discussion.
On the occasion, State Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani highlighted the importance of subjects of ancient Indian culture in the new education policy. Vice chancellor Kailash Sodani spoke about the importance of combining education with culture.
