39 YO Alex Ovechkin broke Wayne Gretzky’s record of most-scored career NHL goals - 894 on Sunday. The game, though lost by his team, Washington Capitals, secured that one prime goal. That one goal that distinguished Alex Ovechkin from Wayne Gretzky. Alex Ovechkin and Wayne Gretzky were tied at 894 career NHL goals. And now, as fate would have it, Alex Ovechkin leads the chart and is ahead of Wayne Gretzky at 895!
The 895th goal was at Sunday’s match between the Washington Capitals and the New York Islanders. The score was 4-1, New York Islanders won. Thanks to their goaltender, Ilya Sorokin, that 895th career NHL goal of Alex Ovechkin was allowed by Sorokin! This insurmountable moment was caught by other leagues, namely, the NFL and the NBA. And, so, the wishes of greats of the greats of the NFL and the NBA poured in!
