As a significant step in ushering Anaheim Ducks to the future, the club's management commenced an overhaul of its leadership behind the bench, former head coach Greg Cronin having been dismissed earlier this month. Quickly switching gears, Ducks management has honed its focus on veteran coach Joel Quenneville. With the team in search of a stable, experienced presence among a bright young roster, Quenneville's name has surfaced prominently during search efforts for this purpose.
Joel Quenneville interviewed for Anaheim Ducks' head coach role amid high expectations
However, the Ducks hastened into option exploring right after departing from Greg Cronin; they were to take it up fast. ESPN's John Buccigross further fanned speculation when posting a shady image that hinted there might be business going on between Joel Quenneville and the Ducks. Hours later came reports to the effect that Quenneville had already interviewed for the post, but he would consider that offer, too.
According to James Murphy, who reports for the NHL, a source very well-placed with regard to happenings in this field indicated that the position had been offered to Quenneville by Anaheim, adding that there is a considerable likelihood he will take it up. However, to put a note of caution, PHWA President Frank Seravalli emphasized the fact that Quenneville has remained a strong contender, but just that Anaheim's coaching search is still at that point in its earliest stages that interviews and other things will be added.
Unmatched by any other coach in the NHL, Joel Quenneville boasts 969 wins in the regular season, which is the second-most of all time among NHL coaches, including three Stanley Cups with the Chicago Blackhawks. Quenneville has been out of coaching since 2021 due to the scandal related to the Chicago Blackhawks but remains counted among the most respected tactical minds in hockey. The general manager of Anaheim, Pat Verbeek, is not only a former teammate of Quenneville but may also find familiarity and trust valuable assets during this pivotal transition phase for the Ducks.
