Kanpur gears up to welcome PM Modi, SPG team assesses security preps
Kanpur: The preparations for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's April 24 visit are in full swing in the city.
The SPG conducted a coordination session with police personnel, providing security-related directives for the PM's visit. The Bharatiya Janata Party state president Bhupendra Chaudhary and other party functionaries reviewed the arrangements of the public meeting venue in a meeting held on Monday evening.
PM Modi is scheduled to stay for about 2 hours and 15 minutes in Kanpur on Thursday. However, the administration's planned Metro journey remains unconfirmed. The second Metro section might be inaugurated directly from the public meeting platform, with final protocols pending confirmation.
As per the itinerary received so far, PM Modi will arrive at Chakeri Airport at 2:40pm, and his chopper will land at CSA helipad at 3:10pm. He will then address the public meeting, planned from 3:15pm to 4:15pm, and will also inaugurate development projects from there. His departure from the helipad to Chakeri Airport is set for 4:25pm, with return scheduled at 4:55pm.
From the public meeting venue, PM Modi will officiate eleven projects worth Rs 20,656 crore. Five helipads have been made at the CSA University including three near the vice-chancellor's office and two near the sports ground meeting venue. Parking arrangements have been made at the CSA campus to accommodate 1,000 cars and 500 buses, with an additional parking at HBTU and the medical college premises.
Multiple LED screens have also been installed across the venue and a proper barricading has been arranged for crowd management. Local police forces have established multiple security checkpoints around the university premises. The police are working in close coordination with the SPG team to implement a comprehensive security protocol.
proper arrangements for water supply and medical facilities have been also made at the strategic locations throughout the venue. Several ambulances will be stationed on standby, and medical teams will be present to handle any emergencies. Separate enclosures have been designated for VIPs, media personnel, and the general public.
As per the traffic management plans finalised for April 24, several roads leading to the CSA University will have restricted access during the event. The police have identified alternative routes to manage regular city traffic and special arrangements have been made for emergency vehicles to ensure unhindered movement.
Additional staff has been deployed to manage the crowd with help desks to assist the visitors. The entire venue will be under CCTV surveillance, with a central control room for monitoring. Meanwhile, the local BJP workers are busy mobilising party supporters from neighbouring districts. Transportation and refreshments are being arranged for attendees.
The university authorities have put the regular academic activities on hold on April 24 and have declared a holiday while special passes have been issued for essential staff needed during the event.
