Lucknow: Police on Monday detained a 16-year-old youth in connection with the Gomtinagar double murder on the night of April 19.
The victims were identified as Ram Saware and Mukesh Kumar Rawat alias Nanhu.
Vandana Kumari, wife of Ram Saware, had lodged the complaint, leading to registration of an FIR. On Apr 21, police had arrested three accused, Ramdev alias Mahadev, Shivraj alias Shiva, and Mohit Kumar. On Apr 28, the youth was detained from a slum and taken into protective custody.
ADCP, east zone, Pankaj Kumar Singh said that preliminary investigations suggested that Saware and Rawat, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, attempted theft at the residence of the accused. In retaliation, the accused reportedly thrashed them, smeared their bodies with black paint, and labelled them as ‘420' (fraudsters). The injured victims were later dumped near railway tracks in Viramkhand. They succumbed to injuries shortly after being rushed to hospital. Police said further investigation is underway to trace other suspects.
